  11. Edges carefully gilt and gauffered to an undulating vine design executed by the repeated stamping of a single dot tool. On the fore-edge, on top of the gauffering, is written in black ink, "MUTII. SFORZAE CARMINA," followed by a floral pattern. Covers of the binding bear a blind central panel with a border of nine blind lines and a single gilt fillet frame. Inner panel has gilt fleurons at angles. Single tools, comprising gouge, hatched arabesques, a leaf, flower motifs, and stars form a gilt centerpiece. The compartments of the spine are tooled alternately with a gilt star and rosettes, with gilt lines against and on the five bands. The board edges and turn-ins are decorated with a single blind fillet. (4)
  12. Edges gilt and gauffered in a repeating four-petal band motif created by gouge tooling and enhanced with red paint. Along the edges of the band motif is a dotted gauffered line and between the petals are small fleurons. Covers bear a central gilt panel of single gilt fillets and chain roll framed by blind and gilt lines. Blocked in the center are the gilt arms of Cardinal Cesi with a painted green tree rising out of a mound. Scored lines on both covers, used to center the armorial block, are clearly visible. Gilt cornerpieces of an interlaced arabesque design on a dotted ground. Centered in each compartment of the spine a gilt fleuron. Gilt hatching decorates the edges of the boards. (2)
  13. Edges gilt and gauffered in an interlaced herringbone design. Binding, signed "BOUND BY F. BEDFORD," is decorated with gilt corner tools which in turn form a centerpiece set on a seme of stars. Border comprises a roll and two-line fillet. Full gilt spine. Edges of the boards and turn-ins gilt with fillet and roll. (5)
  14. Edges gilt and gauffered over a pigmented preparation. Gauffering created by a single circular tool forming a stylized undulating vine with tendrils and fruit. On each edge the design begins and ends with a two-line border of more widely spaced circles with individual circles in the center. Blind tooled decoration on the covers, which is seriously obscured, comprised of three panels formed by a three-line fillet, with fleursde- lis at angles and a cherub roll. Gilt panel spine bears roll decorations across the bands. Tooled title and author in the second panel a later addition. (4)
  15. Edges gilt and gauffered with a palmette tool, a type of anthemion, and fleurons. Gauffering grouped at the verges of each edge and in the center of the fore-edge. The covers are tooled with a central panel made of a stopped gilt three-line fillet and repeated single blind fleuron tool, with blind fleurons at angles. A gilt three-line fillet and blind roll form a border. Edges of the boards are gold tooled with a hatched roll. (5)
  16. Edges gilt and gauffered. Head- and tail-edges bear a floral design at either end, while the center area has been left ungilded and painted blue in paste technique. The fore-edge is similarly decorated but with the gilt, gauffered, coronetted monogram of Friedrich Christian 1 (?) of Holstein-Augustenburg (r. 1754-1794) flanked by cherubs. Underneath, a ribbon with "Rom 10 v. 4. Joh. 5 V. 39" worked in small dots. At the head of the fore-edge the inscription "Zum Gedachtnis von" and at the tail, "M. B. Prunck 1763. v. Lubeck." The center area is also filled with blue paste designs. Covers decorated with an undulating gilt line at each corner stopped with a small fleuron, plus a floral stamp at angles. Title tooled in gold on a light brown calfskin and black goatskin label in the second panel of the spine. Gilt tooling fills the other four panels. Bottom panel also contains a leather label with the inscription "D. H. W. Starcke 1763." Edges of the boards and turn-ins decorated with a gilt roll. (5)
  17. Edges sprinkled red after head and tailbands worked. (4)
  18. Edges stained red and embellished with a gilt medallion head roll. Four different profile heads repeated on the roll with the initials "P," "B," or "O" in the lower right corners of three of the medallions. Fanciful birds fill out the decoration. (To cover the surface of the edges, the roll has been repeated.) A gilt bird is tooled in the center of the covers, which also bear a gilt two-line fillet panel edged with a blind triple fillet, with gilt rosettes at angles. Gold tooling on the spine with rosettes and two-line pallet and roll decoration on and against the bands. (5)
