Gilt t-Gilt,

 
  1. Gilt to a triple panel design of single line fillets, the corners of the inner two panels tooled with an encircled rosette, a curved rose with seven leaves at angles. An acorn tool within a large leaf, flanked by small oak leaves is repeated nine times in the inner frame , with a conventional letter D at the corner surrounded by 4 stars. The spine is divided into 6 panels with the author and date in the second. All other panels elaborately filled within single fillet line and scalloped border, with the acorn within a large leaf tool, Lyres, circles, sprigs with small acorns, stars and dots. The edges of the board are gilt with a single line fillet, the squares are blind tooled with a zig-zag roll with leaf in spaces. Joints weakened and repaired (2)

  3. Gilt to a two panel design with the frames made of double lines formed with single line fillets. The outer panel has crowned fleur-de-lis at angles, and is filled with a vertical undulating vine design with braches and individual leaves surrounded by dots. The horizontal panels have a crown in the center with feathery vines radiating outwards. The center panel has a gilt feathery central wreath with three fleur-de-lis surmounted by a crown surrounded by a semé fleur-de-lis. The smooth spine is gilt with a semé fleur-de-lis within a gilt line frame. The board edges and turn-ins are gilt with a single line fillet. (1)
  4. Gilt to a two panel design with the outer frame built of a pointille and solid arched decorative roll, and a double line fillets and a pin head two line fillet with a pointille tulip stamp. The inner frame is built of a single line fillet and a double line fillet and the pin head two line fillet. At angles is a pointille flower tool with four petals and two leaves. Also around the inner frame are back to back corner brackets and a scallop tool. The inside of the inner panels are ornamental corner brackets and an elaborate center design with pointille tulip stamps and volutes around an oval with hollow dots. The spine is divided into six panels each tooled with a double line frame with corner brackets and a diamond pointed center ornament. The board edges and the turn-ins are gilt with the pointille and solid arched decorative roll. (1)
  5. Gilt two line fillet border with a laurel wreath center block. The smooth spine is divided into four panels by two gilt double lines in the center of the panels is a stemmed flower tool. Inked author and title over the first and second panel. (1)
  6. Gilt two-line fillet border and panel design, stopped in each corner with gilt fleurons at angles. The arms of Cardinal Jules Mazarin worked in gold using small tools, black goatskin onlay, and silver paint. A stylized fleur-de-lis stamped three times occupies the two-line pallet panels tooled in each of the seven spine compartments. A blind roll decorates the board edges. (2)
  7. Gilt two-line fillet panel with very small bud fleurons at angles. Foliage cornerpieces and laurel wreath center block. The four compartments on the spine, created by a two-line pallet and a semicircular tool, are stamped with a stemmed flower tool. Traces of ink title and shelf mark on the spine. (5)
  8. Gilt two-line panel scheme. Blocked corner ornaments plus central cartouche, both on a pin-head ground. Seine of six-pointed stars. Gilt smooth spine given five two-line pallet compartments, decorated with a floral scroll in each. Chevron hatching over head- and tailcaps. (1)

  10. Gilt with a back to back border of a floriated roll with a double line fillet tooled in-between. The cover is covered by a seme of large fleurs-de-lis, a central laurel wreath with intertwinning initials of 'P S' at the corners and in the center of the laurel wreath. The spine is divided into seven panels with each panel framed with a cats tooth on a line decorative roll. The title is gilt in the second panel. All others have the monogram PS gilt in the center with two different sizes of fleur-de-lis stamps tooled around. At the top and bottom panel is the gilt floriated roll. The board edges are gilt with a decorative roll. (2)
  11. Gilt with a fanciful strapwork design with some closed areas filled with pin-dots and stars and small leaf stamps. At the top and bottom and at the sides of the central design is a potted pineapple stamp. The spine is divided into five panels by false bands. The author and title is gilt on a green leather label in the second panel. The other panels are filled by a design with a central hollow circle framed by corners filled with pin-dots, small circles, and a small leaf. The board edges are gilt with a single line fillet. The turn-ins are gilt with a triple line fillet stopped with a small five petal flower. (1)
  12. Gilt with a two line fillet frame with the oval gilt coat of arms of William Henry Miller in the center. The spine is divided into six panels with gilt double lines above and below the bands. The author and title, London and date are gilt on burgundy leather labels in the second and third panels. All other panels have a stylized trefoil ornament gilt in the center. The board edges are gilt with a narrow double line fillet. The turn-ins are gilt with a double line fillet frame. Stamped in ink on the front top pastedown is BOUND BY W. PRATT. (2)
  13. Gilt with a two panel design, the frames tooled with back to back gilt cat's tooth on line decorative rolls. At angles in the outer panel is a gilt trefoil topped fleuron out of a vase. The inner panel has at angles a gilt fleuron with a fleur-de-lis topped orb. The spine is divided into eight panels with gilt cat's tooth on line decorative rolls above and below the bands and dividing the top and bottom panels. The board edges are gilt with a single line fillet. (2)
  14. Gilt with a wide decorative zoological roll border with winged insect inside of a ornamental doorway with a bird looking back sitting on top. Six pointed stars are individually gold tooled between the birds. The spine is divided into six panels with the author and title gilt on black leather labels in the second and fifth panels. All other panels are filled with a gilt diced pattern within a triple line frame edged with a fine rope pattern decorative roll. The board edges and the turn-ins are gilt with a broad fan on a bar decorative roll. (1)
  15. Gilt with an elaborate panel design built up with a trefoil arc decorative roll, then two double line fillet lines linked at angles, a small fine rope decorative roll, with the gilt double line fillet. The center panel is filled with floral gilt tools, large intertwining broad leaf scroll corner-brackets with large thistle flowers and seed pods at the ends. In the center is an oval cartouche formed with the small fine rope roll between single lines filled with small thistle flowers, a large carnation on a stem with acorn stamps and gilt ruffle collar stamp.   16. Gilt with an outer frame made from a pin dot and spaced dot roll outside of two single line fillets with a quatrefoil on a vine decorative roll in-between. Inside the frame is a border design built up of drawer handle tools, pointille floral volutes, stylized flower tools, single dots, and clematis flowers on a crescent. The spine is divided into seven panels with back to back pin dot on one line pallet gilt above and below the bands. The title and author are gilt in the second and third panels. In the center of the other panels is a gilt pointille tulip stamp. The board edges and turn-ins are gilt with a single line fillet. The binding is signed at the bottom of the front turn-in. (2)
