  1. Originally closed with clasps, clasping from front to back covers. Hasps and catches missing, but evidence on the back cover suggest a round flower shaped catch. Simple double nail (iron) strap fastener. (4)
  2. Originally covered in black sheepskin but rebound in 1955 in black goatskin, with the original sides mounted on top. (3)
  3. Originally covered in brown calfskin with oil-tanned spine covering. Original covering was torn away, leaving bare boards with spine covering intact. It was recovered in brown calfskin in 2008 reusing the original spine covering and furniture. (4)
  4. Originally dull gray/brown flyleaves and doublures, now with new two leaf handmade paper flyleaves. (2)
  5. Originally one single center clasp catching onto the front board onto a rectangular catch. Only the back strap plate is extant. (3)
  6. Originally only with manuscript vellum guards adhered across the joints, but a later flyleaf hinged across joint and across a split in the front board. (4)

  15. Originally sewn on three supports laced through wooden boards. Now sewn on three thin recessed supports laced through the board. Six false bands on the spine. (12)
  16. Originally sewn with four single raised supports. During the repair the text block was resewn on three recessed alum tawed supports. (1)
  17. Originally single flyleaf and pastedown with recycled vellum manuscript waste guards. (2)
  18. Originally the endpapers were leaves E1,2,7 & 8 from a Primer and two MS. vellum strips (found folded in the joints). They now are new three blank flyleaves and a made flyleaf and paste-down using a combed cockerel marble paper in black and beige. (3)
