  17. Roll-produced ornament. Outer panel has full length figures of the four Evangelists, with their animal emblems, beneath Renaissance arches. On tablets below each: "S.IOHANNES," "MATEVS.EVAN," "MARCVS.EV.," "EVAN.LVCAS." Within this a narrower panel has four full-length figures beneath canopies of foliage, in compartments with inscribed tablets at the foot: "FIDES" (Faith) holding a cross in her right hand, and a chalice in her left; "FORTIT" (Fortitude) leaning on a column; "SPES" (Hope) with her hands joined in prayer; "CARITAS" (Charity) with a nude child in her arms, and a child at her side. The inner panel has three escutcheons, one with the initials "HL," one with three fleurs-de-lis, and the third with the arms of the city of Augsburg, a pinecone (Weale B207) with heads of warriors in wreaths between the escutcheons.
