Technical Description:
Sewn on three raised red alum-tawed slit thongs, with each section reinforced at the inner fold by narrow strips of vellum. Endleaves and pastedowns of vellum (flesh side uppermost). Spine rounded and backed. Endbands worked over a tawed(?) core, with primary sewing of linen thread, tied down through every other section (approx.). Narrow straps of red and white tawed skin have been worked in a braided style over the top of both endbands and through the spine of the covering material previously cut flush with the endbands. Boards deeply cushioned on outer surfaces. Tongue corners. Spine tied up. Both covers show evidence of clasps with hasps hinged by leather straps from the lower board.

A three-line tool divides the center panel into four full and eight half lozenges, with a small star roundel stamped at each corner and at the place of intersection. Other Details:
Goldschmidt and G. D. Hobson believed that the rebus was that of the Louvain printer, Ludovicus Ravescot. Verheyden suggested that the bookseller Jan van Raveschote, living in the Borchstrate in Louvain from 1475 to 1487, is more likely to have been a binder and thus the owner of the rebus tool. Luc Indestege, however, was certain that Ludovicus Ravescot was himself a binder and owned a panel stamp.
