The covers are tooled with a two panel design with the frames created with two blind tooled lines with a single gilt line in-between. At angles in the outer corners of the inner frame are gilt spiral volutes. The initials A F are gilt in the center of the outer vertical panels. In the center of the inner panel is a gilt tulip on a fleur-de-lis scroll stamp. The spine is divided into eight panels by gilt double lines. The board edges are gilt with a single line fillet.
