Decorative Description:
The covers were gilt with multiple panels. The outer frame is tooled with a double line fillet and the middle frame is tooled with a wave on a pin-dot roll followed by a double line fillet, then a scroll decorative roll and a double line fillet. The inner frame is a single line fillet stopped at the corners by a gilt feather and anthemion scroll fleuron. The spine is divided into six panels with double line and fern-tip frames. The title and the author are gilt in the second and third panels. The others are filled with a center leaf based fleuron surrounded by small gilt circles. The board edges are gilt with a single line fillet and the turn-ins are gilt with a decorative border with single lines and an anthemion decorative roll and fern-tip on pin-dot roll tooled around the doublures. The binder's signature stamp "BOUND BY SANGORSKI & SUTTCLIFFE, LONDON" is tooled at the bottom of the front doublure.
