Two fore-edge clasps hinging from the front board and catching on the back. The top clasp, one strap nail, hasp and catch plate are extant. On the bottom only the strap nails are extant. The strap was made of a three layer tanned leather.

The cover was blind tooled with a center panel stamp. The inner portion is divided by vertical lines into three compartments. The center compartment is much narrower than the other two and bears the inscription "Jacob Illuminator me fecit". The lateral compartments are each occupied by four, and the border by sixteen circular medallions of various beasts and birds facing each other. (Oldham, Blind Panels of English Bindings, Plate VI, #AN. 3).
