Decorative Description:
The cover was blind tooled with an intricate all-over interwoven strapwork design pattern. In the center is a armorial crest of the Duke of Marlborough with a baronet and marquess's coronet above a winged griffin. The spine is divided into six panels with the title gilt in the second panel and W. De Worde 1530 gilt in the fifth panel. The other panels are filled with gilt scroll volutes and small quatrefoil flowers on stems. The board edges are gilt with leaf and fern tip decorative roll. The turn-ins and inner joint are gilt with gilt single line fillets. The outer is stopped with gilt dots and the middle ends at curved gouges. The inner panels are gilt with a decorative tulip roll with anthemion stamps at the corners. The binder's signature "BOUND BY C. LEWIS" stamp is blind-tooled at the bottom left turn-in.
