Decorative Description:
The covers are gilt with a two panel design with the overlapping frames gilt with double line fillets. At the corners of the outer panel is the monogram JWM of the owner John Whitefoord MacKenzie. The center panel is gilt with ornate corners tooled with a square abstract starburst stamp with strapwork and volute stamp on either side. In the center of the inner panel is a blocked hatched ground cartouche stamp. The spine is divided into six panels by shaped double bands and all the panels are framed with gilt double lines. The author and title is gilt in the second panel. The other panels are gilt with a square cross stamp in the center and triple dots at the corners. The turn-ins are gilt with a large decorative roll with fern-filled double inner curves.
