Decorative Description:
The covers were blind tooled in three panels with different designs on the front and back. The front cover panel frame is built up of a variable width triple line fillet with a trefoil on an arc decorative roll. The top and bottom panels are alike with a rondel tooled with the trefoil on an arc decorative roll, with a pine bough stamp tooled at the corners and in the center of the rondel. The middle panel has a stamp of a four prong antler stag with the pine bough stamp on either side. The back cover is likewise divided into three panels, framed the same way the top panel is filled with repeated impressions of the pine bough stamp. The bottom panel is tooled with a Salter cross with the impression of an owl tooled in the upper and bottom part of the cross and with pine bough stamps in the left and right spaces. The middle panel has three impressions of the Owl stamp. The spine was originally titled with ink inscriptions. It was painted over in the Baroque period with lead white paint and then inked with the title and shelf number.
