Two fore-edge clasps hinging from the front cover and catching on the back. The strap nails use one star nail and two round decorative nails. The straps are new. The hasps and catch plates are engraved and decorated by ornamental punches.

Decorative Description:
The covers are blind tooled with a three panel design with the frames tooled with a variable width triple line fillet which is used at angles in the outer panel. The middle panel is filled with back to back guilloche and anthemion decorative rolls. The spine is divided into five panels with the variable width triple line fillet tooled above and below the bands and at the head and tail continuing onto the covers. A later author and title gilt on a red leather label was adhered in the second panel and the printer Norton, London and 1578 was gilt in the fourth panel. In the third panel is a blind tooled oval crest with a tower surrounded by the motto TURRIS TUTISSMIA FIDES. Underneath the crest are the initials J B.
