The covers are blind tooled to a multi panel design with the frames tooled with a variable width triple line fillet. The outer panel is filled with a medallion head decorative roll. The center panel is blocked with a double image scene. The top image comes from Luke 1:31 with the text "CONCIPIES IN UTERO ET PARIES". Underneath is the image from Psalm 97:1 with the text "PUER NATUS EST NOBIS ET FILIUS". Beneath the center panel is the date 1561. The back cover has also a double image scene with the top image with the text "HIC EST FILIUS MEUS DELECTUS" (the words uttered by God at the Transfiguration), and below is the image with the text from Isaiah 53:4 "Dolores nostros ipse portavit".
