Decorative Description: 
The covers are gilt with a double panel design. The frames are tooled with a variable spaced triple line fillet with small fleurons over the corners. At angles in the outer panel are gilt monogram V V intertwined with C C surrounded by small "S". In the center of the inner panel is the gilt, blocked, stamped coat of arms of Valentin Conrart (1603-1675), with a saltire and motto "Fugat omne venænum" . The spine is divided into six panels each framed with gilt double lines. The title is gilt in the second panel. All other have gilt volute brackets at the corners and the gilt monogram V V intertwined with C C surrounded by small "S" in the center. The board edges and the turn-ins are gilt with a stick and ribbon decorative roll.
