Decorative Description:
The covers are an applied varnished wooden panel over a leather binding. The varnished panels have two inked frames with a center lozenge. At the bottom of the outer panel is the Roman numeral date MDCLXI (1661). In the center of the lozenge is a framed title, Holy Bible, with the H and B painted in red. The spine is divided into six panels, each framed with gilt double lines. The title Holy Bible is gilt in the second panel. All of the other panels are filled with corner volute brackets, with a gilt rosette in the center, and with connecting ovals on either side, surrounded by gilt dots. The board edges and turn-ins are gilt with a broad leaf and tulip decorative roll.
