Evidence of two fore-edge clasps hinging from the back cover and catching on the front. One bottom catch plate and the two strap plates are extant.

Decorative Description:
|
The covers are blind tooled with a wide multi-line border around a three panel design. The frames are all tooled with a variable-width triple-line fillet. The outer panel is filled with an armorial decorative roll; one of the shields has the monogram initials M A P. The center panel is filled with three rows of a medallion head roll. The spine is divided into five panels. Variable-width triple lines are tooled above and below the raised bands, and the lines continue and taper onto the boards. The top and bottom panels are blind tooled with a diced pattern design, and the center panel is tooled with a crossed star pattern.
