Technical Description:
Sewn in the herringbone style onto three slit alum-tawed goatskin thongs. Strips of vellum manuscript reinforce the center of each section and the outer and inner folds of the four endpapers; the quarto set at the front of the text remains uncut at the head. Pastedowns of vellum manuscript hooked around the endpapers . Pronounced rounded spine with hammered(?) joints. Endbands worked with linen thread over tawed core and tied down through each section above the kettle stitch. Secondary sewing in blue and yellow(?) (now fragmentary) is stitched through the spine of the covering material (and would have been worked over the head- and tailcaps and endband). Pasteboards made up of approximately 18 layers of paper manuscript, with a pronounced bevel to the inside joint; boards back cornered. Each board is further covered by a single paper document. Turn-ins unpared with crudely cut corners. Remains of four tawed ties (one head and tail, two at the fore-edge). A handwritten title under horn, framed in brass, is pinned to the lower cover. Inscriptions in ink on the spine and on all three edges of the text block.
