Technical Description:
Text block initially marked up across spine for six sewing stations. In trimming sections before sewing, the two kettle stitch stations were mostly cut away (only a few marks remain). Text sewn on four raised double cords without kettle stitches, with endbands sewn at same time over cord cores. A secondary chevron sewing (worked after the book was sewn) with alternating blue and white linen thread, except in center which is a solid color (blue at head and white at tail). Single plain endpapers tipped at either end (19th century?). A strip of vellum reinforces inner fold of first section. Vellum manuscript pastedowns. Rounded spine with vellum spine liners put down onto the outside of each of the boards, which have an acute beveled edge at joint and recesses cut to receive furniture. Mitered corners. New head- and tailcaps (20th century).

Other Details:
FURNITURE: Metal work characteristically German. Both covers with five circular, raised, flat-topped bosses with wide tapered rims which have small indentations in their centers (perhaps a result of the manufacturing process?). Perfectly round engraved circles surround the perimeters of the rims. Brass edge guards. Upper board notched to accept the curl of the catch plate. Under the curl and wrapping around the fore-edge of the board to its underside is a thin strip of brass which acts as the counter plate for the riveted nails holding the clasp to the board. Hasps missing, as are the tanned leather straps. Remnants of straps held in place by brass strap plates riveted with six pins. Each is decorated differently.
