Other Details:
Attention was first directed to the leading binder's shop in 17th-century Rome in 1953, when it was given the name, "the Rospigliosi Bindery." Mgr. Jose Ruysschaert subsequently identified the binders as Gregorio and Giovanni Andreoli. Their clients included several Popes, as well as Queen Christina of Sweden, by that time living in Rome. The bindery was active from ca. 1630. Gregorio Andreoli was named Vatican Binder for life by Pope Alexander VII (Chigi) in 1665. He died in 1696 and was succeeded by his brother Giovanni, who died in 1699.
