Other Details:
The use of Western paper for the endsheets on this binding illustrates the extent to which the court of Sultan Alunad III (1703-1730) was infiltrated by foreign trade. As French tastes were paramount at the time, they could have influenced the floral decoration on the covers of this binding, a style which Haldane calls "a kind of Turkish rococo." However, the extended central medallions on the doublures are typical of the more traditional 18th century Turkish book design.
