Decorative Description:
Tooled to a two panel design with the frame of the outer panel blind tooled with a fine variable width triple line fillet. The inner panel is framed by two rows of the variable width triple line fillet (6 mm apart) with two single gilt lines, and the space between stained black (leather is now cracked and delaminating). At angles in the outer panel are gilt leafy fleurons. In the center panel is a gilt fleuron ornament tooled above and below a gilt and stained frame with the initials F S. The spine is divided into six panels with blind tooled frames in each panel and with a gilt double ivy leaf tooled in the center. The board edges were tooled with a single blind tooled fillet.
