Setting 1. Imperfect: the dedication leaf to William Seymour, Marquis and Earl of Hertford (A2) is wanting, replaced by two leaves with the painted coat of arms (motto: "Tout par ung"; the first part of the motto "Ung par tout" was left off) of subscriber Thomas Wriothisley, Earl of Southampton, and a ms. dedication to him on the facing page, by John Ogilby. Armorial bookplate (no motto): Frederic Perkins, Chipstead Place, Kent, with ms. shelfmark. In diced Russia calf with Perkins' crest stamped on front and back boards; gold tooling on boards and spine, gilt edges; marbled paper endleaves, signed: Bound by Hering, 9 Newman St.; could be any of several members of the Hering family. (see London bookbinders 1780-1840). Purchased from Blackwell, 26 Oct 1984.
