The emblems are printed from plates originally engraved by Crispijn van de Passe the elder for Gabriel Rollenhagen's Nucleus emblematum selectissimorum (Arnheim, 1611) and Emblematum centuria secunda (Arnheim, 1613). All engravings are integral to letterpress gatherings.
