Notes (Hamnet):
Apparently this volume belonged to the Jeffreys family of Acton, Denbighshire, ca. 1650-ca. 1660. The six Christian names on leaves 24 correspond to those of Judge Jeffreys and his five brothers, some of whom scribbled in the blank spaces, e.g. a note of personal expenses (leaf 62v), a couplet (leaf 39v), 2 alphabets (leaf 62r and leaf 68v), and an incomplete line of verse (leaf 68v). Their maternal grandfather, Sir Thomas Ireland of Bewsay, Lancashire (d. 1625), was a Reader of Gray's Inn. Their paternal grandfather, John Jeffreys of Acton Park (d. 1622), was a judge of the Anglesey Circuit.
