History: Drawing was executed as an illustration to the 1908 edition of Midsummer night's dream, published by William Heinemann in London and Doubleday, Page & Co. in New York. It appeared as a three-color reproduction, tipped on to a leaf facing p.70 of the text. The reproduction measured 7 7/16 x 4 13/16 in. Drawing was exhibited along with Rackham's other illustrations for this edition, at Leicester Galleries in London, 1908 and in the Folger's travelling exhibit 'Shakespeare, the Globe and the World' 1979-1982 (reproduced on p.155 of the catalog, fig. 11).
