Condition reviewed the primary support is a tabby-weave canvas, from which the tacking edges have been cut off. Falstaff's hat has been damaged and extensively repainted
Conserved 19320000 Finlayson glue-lined the original canvas onto a commercially prepared ground

John Anderson, Jr., opened a small auction house under his own name in 1900 at 34 W. 30th St., New York, March 1911, $150, as by Hayman (receipt is in C Deck correspondence)
