One in a set of engravings representing the ages of man through the six orders of a classical column.
Notes (Hamnet):
The fourth age, from 48 to 64 years. A number of bearded men are gathered on the landing before a palace, with a portico supported by doric columns. Inside the portico are niches filled with books, and several of the men are gathered around a table with books on it. A soldier walking up the steps to the landing appears to be coming home from war.
