Notes (Hamnet):
All items have been removed from backings. The backings for nos. 68-71 had labelings in pencil. No.69 and No.70 have the play title written in pencil within the drawing, along with a penciled signature (though the title has been trimmed on no.70). No.68 has a penciled number '34' in the bottom right corner. A label written in brown ink in Roman style capitals with an italic hand, formerly from the backing of no.72, has been preserved and is encapsulated in mylar along with the drawing itself. The label includes the title of the play, act and scene division, characters portrayed and quotation being illustrated. Label is identical to those found on the watercolors by Wright grouped as the 'loosely executed (horizontal)' series. It also includes the brown script on the verso of the backing reading 'J.M. Wright'. Items measure between 7 1/8 x 5 5/8 in. and 8 3/8 x 6 1/2 in. They are loosely executed and some appear to be unfinished. Two items have additional drawings on the back: no.68 verso has a rough pencil sketch of an unidentified scene with a large group of people, and no.69 verso has a pen and ink wash depicting a scene from The Tempest.
