Subject: Drawings illustrate the following scenes: Merry wives - Falstaff disguised as Mrs. Pratt and an unidentified scene (ART Box W951 no.125,126) ; As you like it - large group scene, unidentified (no.127) ; Taming of the shrew - Act IV, Sc. 3, Katherine beating Grumio (no.128,129) ; Merchant of Venice - Shylock and two other figures (no.130) ; The tempest - unidentified scene, Caliban and Ariel (?) in front of a cave opening (no.131 a & b) and Prospero, Miranda, Ferdinand and Ariel (no. 132). Many of this information was derived from notes on backings which have since been removed from drawings. Three of the drawings have pencil sketches for other scenes on their versos (ART Box W951 no.126 and 128 depict Falstaff and Doll Tearsheet, and no.129 is a picture of a person standing in a tree which has been trimmed so that the person is only visible from the waist down).
