Bought by Folger from Thorp, 1929.
Condition reviewed the miniature is mounted in a brass frame on the cover of a book-volume 7 of Rowe's 1709 edition of The Works of Shakespeare, containing Venus and Adonis, Tarquin and Lucrece, Poems on Several Occasions. A drawing by Rossetti is also glued to the back of the frontispiece, with an inscription on the page opposite: "This pen and ink drawing / by Rossetti represents / Vincennes / the death of the Duke / of Engheim in which / Rossetti's friend, Joyce / was much interested"
