Artist: Pegram was known as a black and white artist and illustrator who was prolific in the work he did for magazine illustrations. He illustrated for most of the major arts and entertainment magazines of his day.
Notes (Hamnet):
History: Drawings were once in a window mat which noted that the works were reproduced in 'Lady's pictorial'. Fragment of window mat, rubber-stamped 'Original Drawing, Reproduced in "Lady's Pictorial", removed to curatorial file.Folger has another drawing of this production of Cymbeline by Ralph Cleaver (ART Box C623 no.1) which was probably done for a magazine as well.
Notes (Hamnet):
Provenance: Item is listed in case 263, along with the Cleaver illustration but there is no case information available and neither items were listed by Mrs. Folger in her card file.
Notes (Hamnet):
Subject: Drawings illustrate scenes from Henry Irving's production of Cymbeline performed at the Lyceum, Sept. 22, 1896. The characters portrayed are Frank Tyars as Pisanio ; Ellen Terry as Imogen and the Page ; Frank Cooper as Posthumus and Henry Irving as Iachimo. One picture illustrates Imogen kneeling before Pisanio, one Posthumus expounding to Iachimo, another is of Terry as the Page and the signed section shows Iachimo leaning over the bed of Imogen. Terry was much aclaimed for her portrayal of Imogen.
