Condition reviewed The original canvas is a twill weave, from which all tacking margins have been removed. There is a medium-thick, buff-colored ground layer, and the paint layer ranges from very thin washes of color, with canvas weave clearly visible beneath, to areas of modeled impasto. There is abrasion in many of the thinly painted areas. Pentimenti reveal that the artist changed the position of Angelo's right knee. A comparison with the engraving shows some loss to the canvas along the bottom edge
