46 ^ 145 For the measles P Take 3 or 4 figgs and 2 spoonesfull of Annisseede beate them in a morter then seethe them in small Ale clarifyed put to it halfe a penny worthe of English saffron, and when you suspect them to be infected with this disease giue them this drinke. ^ 146 For the Rickets in a child . P Take a pint of white wine and boile therin a handfull of Liuerworte as much tenterwort, prosper and maiden haires, halfe so much browne sage, halfe a handfull of browne fennell & yarrow, boile them till halfe be consumed. then straine it and sweeten it with 2 ounces of fine suger, and let the child drinke of it morning and Euening 4 or 6 spoones full at a time. ^ 147 An ointment for the same P Take a pound of butter with out salt being new put therin a handfull of tenterwort the same quantities of euery one afore mentioned in the drinck, add some of the barke bottome of the tree. scrape of the mosse chop the rine in peeces and boile it with the hearbs then straine it out, anoint the sides and the hardness of the belly this must be applyed spring and fall vntill the child recouer. ^ 148 For the weakness of the spirits P Take of Amber Corrall and pearle of each 16 grames, of beazer stone 10 graines, full of couslep water, giue this in the morning and a little of the water after it sweetened with suger and often in the day giue a little of the water ^ 149 For the Rickets proued. P How to know the disease in children they will be short [winded] breathed, the joints of the Ancles knees, wrists and elbowes will grow bigg and you may feele some knotts on the ends of the ribbs and the brest will grow narrow. ^ 150 The cure P First purge the child with rubarbe steeped in t in beere thus doe 3 or 4 dayes. Then let the child blood on the inside of the eares before the moone be 10 dayes old this doe once a month during the cure saue the blood and presently rub it on all the childs joints/
