Whereas there is a Tickett dated the 28th. of May Last. 1644. directed to
the Lady Powell; wife of Sir. Edward Powell Baronet yet alive for 300li. which
is assessed on her by the Assessors. sitting at Haberdashers hall, to be paid
within 10. Dayes after notice. The Ladyes suite is t.o bee freed therefrom,
for the reasons following:
1. Sir. Edward Powell her husband, having a howse with stable, Coach howse and a small garden
belonging in Chelsey (All which. doth not conteyne one acre of ground) wherein the Lady liveth
being left by her said husband, and nothing left to her in the howse but a fewe Chaires and stooles
and some other trifling houshold stuff of smalle value, and having noe other subsistance
but what she borrowed from freinds.
2 Notwithstanding her said husband (besides an advancement. of aboue. 16000li) had in personall
estate at times with. her) Receaueth also about 1400li. per Annum in her right, for lands whereof
the greatest part lyeth in London, Essex and Kent, and the rest in Wiltshire & Berkshire
besides his owne estate, Not allowing her a penny thereof, or any thing els whereby to
maynteine or releive her, Nor doth she make further vse or benifitt of the howse, then for a
sleeping place.
1 And whereas it may be obiected; the Lady keepeth her Coach. It is true, the Coach
was her Mothers, and the two horses she somtimes vseth, are the Earle of
Manchesters, and are to be at an houers warning, when his Lordshipp. shall send for
them, As by his Lordships. warrant or Certificate may appeare.
2 And if it be obiected: the Lady hath a Parsonage of :5. or 600li. per Annum in
County

Somerset: It is true, her feoffees had, and whilst shee had the benifit thereof
shee freely gaue and sett forth two horses compleat; ffor with readines and and Loue to
the cause, she was called there, the Roundheaded Lady; and since her parsonage
by the Comissioners of Array sequestered and disposed of, (and as is conceiued given
from her vnder the great seale) Nor hath she had thence aboue 200li. theis two
yeares ending at Michaelmas next.
3. And if it bee also obiected, that she hath done nothing for the Parliament. since,
It will appeare shee gave, two Horses compleate for the vse of the Parliament.

souldiers, and their Horses that came to haue Quarter, as six or eight Troopers
at once for a long time; Besides sending vittailes seuerall times freely to the
Armye.
