To stop gripes
Take old conserve of red rose old marmalade a little diascordial to make
an Electuary
A Decoction of semma for melancholy
semma 2 ounces Ppollipodium half an ounce ginger one dram raisons of the
sun stoned 2 ounces 12 pruens Borage flowers violets roses Rosemary of each
2 Drams boyl all these in 4 pound of water till 1/2 be consumed and add it it
an ounce of syrrup of Roses
An Excellent powder to squench drought and open obstructions
Take salt nitre very pure one Dram white suger candy a quarter of an ounce
mix them & divide them into three papers desolve one of them in a pint of Drink and
so Drink of it a fortnight together or there abouts
Excellent for a cough
Take of Issop water half a pint suger candy 2 ounces stir them well together
in a stone morter till it is well desolved then drop into it as much spirit
of sulpher as will make it gratefull to the taste put it into a bottle and
Take 2 spoonfulls of it going to bed & in the day now & then a spoonfull
A Drink calld the wound Drink that cures all wounds
Take southern wood wormwood Buglouse mugwort wood Bittany sanacle
plantaine Dandeylion Ribwort white bottles wh wild Dayses roots & all honey
suckles Arens Hawthorne buds oken buds or leaves Bramble buds wild
Angelico comfrey the sweet red mint scabius strawberry leaves cinqfoil
Leaves these herbs must be gatherd in may & picked and dryed very well
the Buds must be picked in April at their first comeing forth when they are
all well dryd break them in little peices then put them in a bag very close
being first mingled together and close keep them all the year
Take a pottle of fair water & a quart of white wine and two handfulls
of these herbs and boyl them till half the liquor be consumed then strain
it from the Herbs then put to it a pint of honey and boyl it again and
scum it clean the n put it in a glass and stop it close and take eight
spoonfulls of it at a time warm in the morning & last at night till
you have drank a quart it will keep good but a fortnight or 3
weeks and then you must make fresh if you will add to this the
herb saxafrag Pillitory of the wall oyster green & parsley seed then
this Drink is also good for the stone ease the pain & break the stone
There was a famous phisitian that did report this drink to be
good for sores new & old, for wounds in the body laying with all a
plaister if honey and wax, it is good for a womans sore breast,
for putrified bones and for Ackes in the stomack and to break
Imposthumes, it hath driven bullets out of a souldiers body and
heald the place, it hath been given a child of 5 week old a spoonfull
or 2 at a time that hath been all over boyles and cured it,
it is good to wash a wound and if it swell lay a poltisie to it
made of white bread grated milk & saffron it cures in the Liver or
any inward sore & is good for Agues
a certain cure for the itch
Take sengreen - woodbine - red sage bramble leaves Elecompain
roots of each an handfull boyl them in half a pound of unwashed
butter or lard when well boyld strain it of and put into it an
ounce of flour of Brimstone and 2 or spoonfulls of hungary
water stir it till cold anoint with it 4 nights together by then
fire don't change your linnen in 8 day before you anoint take
flour of brimstone in milk 3 mornings as much as will lay
upon a shilling each morn Mr Mrs Sadliers Receipt
a cooling purge
12 cardanal seed 7 prunes a quarter of an ounce of seeney
a little brown suger let it simmer altogether Doctor iebb recipt
for a cough
Take two ounces of reasons of the sun stoned, one ounce o
brown suger candy one ounce of conserve of roses add to these
a little flour of brimstone mix all well together in a morter
and take the quantity of a large nutmeg night & morn
Doctor Dowses Dyet drink
Take a pound of unslacked Lime pour 7 quarts of water upon it
and let it stand till it has done hissing then fillter it upon an ounce
of stick liquorish and half an ounce of sasafras bark let it
stand 2 days and strain it off

Doctor Bates Red powder
Take Dragon - Tormentel roots and leaves - scabious - corddus -
pimpernal - Bettany - ruse - scordien - Angelico - mary golde leaves
and flowers - of each two handfulls wipe them very clean and bruise
them put them in an earthen pot and put to it three pints of the best
white wine cover it close & let it stand a day or two then strain
out the herbs and let it settle have ready a pound of the best
Bolearmonick in very fine powder and put it in a broad
earthen dish and put as much of the liquor as will wet it stir
and mix it very well stir it often and as it drys put in more liquor
so do till the liquor is all in at the last weting have ready a Dram
and half of saffron in fine powder one ounce of fine venus treacle
one ounce of hartshorn finely powderd half an ounce of
virginia snake root half an ounce of contrierva root both
in fine powder mix it all well together and put it in the sun again
and stir it often when it is dry enough to work with your
hands like paste work it very well and make it up in little
balls and put them in the earthen dish again in the sun till they
be very dry then put them in glasses and tye them very close with
blader & leather
give to a grown person as much as will lay upon a shilling
it is good for a fevor or ague surfit and worms
To make oyle of charity
Take of Rosemary tops cammemell - lavender - red sage
and wormwood of each one handfull shred them small and
and put them in an open mouthd glass or iugg with as much
of the best sallet oyl as will cover them let it stand for a month
in the sumn tyed close with an oyld paper string it every day
then strain out the herbs and put the same quantity of charity &
boyl it till it be a perfect green then strain it & let it
stand all night then pour of all the clear & if you please
you may boyl it again keep it in a bottle
It is good for sprains or bruises outward or inward a
pain in the ear drop it in warm for an inward bruise
Take a great spoonfull at a time warm for the piles a
great spoonfull at a time night and morn it is good for
all inward pains what so ever
For a pearl or web in the eye
Take verven - grunsel Dasy roots bay salt of each one hand
full beat them to a poltise and bind it on the contrary rest for 3 nights
puting on fresh every night it was never known to fail
For the Rumitism
cimical oil of Iuniper eleven drops upon a lump of suger the
first & last thing morn and night encreasing one drop every
day till it comes to fifteen keep on with 15 till well
To draw out a thorn
Take a horse bean cut it in half apply it to the part and in
24 hours it will be out
For an Hoarsness
Take a quarter of an ounce of Annis seed pounded a quarter
of an ounce of stick liquorish cut thin aquarter of an ounce
of marchmallow roots one ounce of lent figs slit & one ounce
of reasons stoned boyl it in two quarts of water till it comes
to one then drink a quarter of a pint very warm going to bed
To make Ink
1/2 an ounce of coperous 1 ounce of gauls bruised 1/2 an ounce
of gum araback beat to a fine powder put them all in to
2 quarts of rain water and bear boil it a 1/4 of an hour
